Abstract: The history of Linwood College has not been written. The college deserves a written chronicle of its life and contributions, for it existed for almost forty years and made a definite contribution to education in North Carolina and nearby states. The documents and other sources from which an accurate history can be constructed, though once plentiful, are now scarce, and the remaining few are constantly diminishing. The problem of the writer is to discover and gather all available information and from this construct as accurate a record as possible.
