Abstract: Instrumentation: 2 Flutes 2 Oboes 2 Clarinets in B? Bass Clarinet in B? Contrabass Clarinet in B? 4 Horns in F 4 Trumpets in B? 4 Trombones Tuba Timpani (3) Piano SATB Mixed Chorus (Minimum: 40 voices) Bass Soloist Violins I, II Violas Cellos Contrabasses . The text is taken from two poems by Stefan George: "Nietzche", written in 1900 upon the death of the philosopher whom George revered, and "Der Stern des Bundes", written on the eve of the First World War in 1914. The composer wishes to express deep gratitude to Dr. Jack Jarrett, under whom the composer received his compositional training, and to Dr. Arthur Hunkins for his many orchestrational suggestions and technical advice, and to Mr. Ross Albert for his unswerving friendship and never-ending concern for this project.
