Abstract: The purpose of this study was to determine which teaching method, a games approach or a movement exploration approach, was more effective in teaching selected motor skills to first grade children over a four-week period. The study was conducted in two schools in Greensboro, North Carolina. Two first grade classes were selected from each school, making a total of one hundred and twenty subjects. The classes were randomly assigned to one of the teaching methods by rolling a die. At each school one class was in the experimental group and the other class was in the control group.
