Abstract: Home economics educators have given much thought to the problems of what and how to teach, how to evaluate results and the place of home economics in the total school program. They have recommended changes in methods of teaching and in evaluation which should parallel the changing trends in the home economics curriculum. Social and economic conditions have changed at an accelerated rate; yet, during this period of rapid change, classroom practices have lagged far behind the beliefs of leaders in the field of education. "Thinking" has pushed ahead of "practice." The dosing of this gap depends heavily on pre—service and in-service education.
