Abstract: The problem on which this study focused was whether a competency-based teacher education program could be modified in certain specified directions through collaborative arrangements involving several education agencies. Specifically, this study considered the following questions: Can a competency-based teacher education program be modified to (1) focus on key results of teaching? (2) shift key decisions for teacher education to teachers? (3) increase field-based preparation time? (4) allow for personal teacher education programs based on individual needs? The study had two focal points: the Competency-Based Teacher Education movement and Camp Lejeune Teacher Education Consortium program which was a modification of North Carolina competency-based teacher education programs.
