Abstract: Technology is interwoven is all aspects of modern nursing. The utilization of electronic documentation systems, medication administration systems, and electronic health records is pervasive in health care. An electronic health record system was used in a simulated experience in an undergraduate health assessment course to increase competency of nursing students in critical thinking and clinical decision making. Participants will learn about the process used, advantages and disadvantages of incorporating this technology in the classroom and clinical setting, and student and faculty perceptions of the effort. Plans for researching this topic further will be shared, specifically addressing attitudes and openness to continual learning related to the utilization of technology in nursing education.
