Abstract: Presentation at the 2013 Building Bridges Conference that was held at UNC Pembroke in July 2013. According to the presenter, there are many disparities across the United States when it comes to the health care system. Dr. Harold Freeman, the Associate Director of the National Cancer Institute, says that there are three reasons that these disparities occur: 1) poverty, 2) culture/behaviors, and 3) social injustice. Ultimately, affluent citizens enjoy better health than do minorities and poor citizens.
