Henry Harris
Henry Harris is a distinguished musician and aspiring composer. He graduated from Varina High
School in Henrico, VA and is currently pursuing his Bachelor of Arts degree in Music
Performance with a concentration in Trombone at Elizabeth City State University in ElizabethCity, NC.
With a passion for performance and composition, He strives to develop his skills in both areas.
Even before reaching his current academic pursuits, he achieved remarkable feats. In his senior
year of high school, he was granted the opportunity to perform with the Petersburg Symphony,
an experience that shaped his musical journey. To this day, he continues to be an active member of the symphony.
Mr. Harris dedication to music led him to join various ensembles and groups. He became an
integral part of the Richmond Nativity Pageant Brass Choir, the Richmond City Jazz Band, and a
trombone choir called BoneFire. During the summer, you may find him performing with the
Accord Symphony Orchestra in Washington, D.C., gracing renowned venues like the Kennedy
Center.
Notably, he also excels as a composer. In the spring of 2023, his first concert band piece, "A Night
Of Wonder," was commissioned by the Elizabeth City State University Concert Band,
showcasing his creative talent.
His performances have garnered attention and recognition. He has had the honor of performing
at esteemed venues such as University of Richmond, on television stations such as ESPN, and
for the 72nd Governor of Virginia. Furthermore, he has had the privilege of sharing the stage
with Grammy Award-winning trumpeter Charlton Singleton.
Among his significant accomplishments, Mr. Harris was bestowed with the Music Program
Achievement Award by the Elizabeth City State University Department of Music and Visual
Arts. Additionally, he proudly performed with the IMA (Intercollegiate Music Association) Jazz
Band Ensemble in both 2020 and 2023, cementing his position as a skilled and respected
musician.
