A James Fisher

James Fisher is Professor of Theatre and Head of the Department of Theatre at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro where he leads a department of 25 faculty and staff and 300 B.A., B.F.A., and M.F.A. students. In 2007, Fisher received the Betty Jean Jones Award for Excellence in the Teaching of American Theatre from the American Theatre and Drama Society. Prior to joining the faculty of UNCG, Fisher spent twenty-nine years at Wabash College, Crawfordsville, IN, where he served as Chair of the Theatre Department for thirteen years and was twice named the McLain/McTurnan/Arnold Research Scholar (1987-1988 and 1999-2000) and the LaFollette Lecturer in 1992-93. In 1997, he was named Indiana Theatre Person of the Year for 1996 by the Indiana Theatre Association, an award for particular individuals who have contributed to the cooperative development of theatre at all levels within the state of Indiana.
