Emily Stamey

Emily Stamey is Curator and Head of Exhibitions at the Weatherspoon Art Museum at the University of North Carolina, Greensboro. Her recent projects include To the Hoop: Basketball and Contemporary Art (2020) and Dread & Delight: Fairy Tales in an Anxious World (2018), along with solo exhibitions of work by Angela Fraleigh (2021), Sanford Biggers (2017), and Hank Willis Thomas (2016). Stamey has held curatorial positions at the Scottsdale Museum of Contemporary Art in Arizona and the Ulrich Museum of Art at Wichita State University in Kansas. Her research focuses on the social histories of modern and contemporary art in the United States. She earned her PhD and MA in Art History from the University of Kansas and her BA in Art History from Grinnell College in Iowa.
