Dioxygen reactivity of copper(I)/manganese(II)-porphyrin assemblies: Mechanistic studies and cooperative activation of O2 2022 520 The oxidation of transition metals such as manganese and copper by dioxygen (O2) is of great interest to chemists and biochemists for fundamental and practical reasons. In this report, the O2 reactivities of 1:1 and 1:2 mixtures of [(TPP)MnII] (1; TP...
(Hydr)oxo-bridged heme complexes: From structure to reactivity 2019 671 Iron–porphyrins (i.e., hemes) are present throughout the biosphere and perform a wide range of functions, particularly those that involve complex multiple-electron redox processes. Some common heme enzymes involved in these processes include cytochro...
Insights into the chemical diversity of selected fungi from the Tza Itzá cenote of the Yucatan peninsula 2022 663 Cenotes are habitats with unique physical, chemical, and biological features. Unexplored microorganisms from these sinkholes represent a potential source of bioactive molecules. Thus, a series of cultivable fungi (Aspergillus spp. NCA257, NCA264, and...
New terpenoids from the corticioid fungus Punctularia atropurpurascens and their antimycobacterial evaluation 2022 441 Chemical investigation of Punctularia atropurpurascens strain HM1 (Punctulariaceae), a corticioid isolated from a decorticated piece of Quercus bark collected in Bosque de Tlalpan, Mexico City, led to the isolation of a new drimane, 1-a-hydroxy-isodr...
Nitric oxide generation from heme/copper assembly mediated nitrite reductase activity 2014 480 Nitric oxide (NO) as a cellular signaling molecule and vasodilator regulates a range of physiological and pathological processes. Nitrite (NO2 -) is recycled in vivo to generate nitric oxide, particularly in physiologic hypoxia and ischemia. The cyto...
Protonation of the oxo-bridged heme/copper assemblies: Modeling the oxidized state of the cytochrome c oxidase active site 2021 233 In this study on model compounds for the resting oxidized state of the iron copper binuclear center in cytochrome c oxidase (CcO), we describe the synthesis of a new µ-oxo-heme/Cu complex, [(TPP)FeIII–O–CuII(tmpa)][B(C6F5)4] (2) {TPP: tetraphenyl por...
Structural diversity of Perylenequinones is driven by their redox behavior 2022 713 Hypocrellins and hypomycins are two subclasses of fungal perylenequinones with unique structural, biological, and photochemical properties. With the growing interest in these naturally occurring photosensitizers, more studies were warranted to better...
Synthetic, spectroscopic, structural, and electrochemical investigations of ferricenium derivatives with weakly coordinating anions: ion pairing, substituent, and solvent effects 2021 552 A facile and effective strategy for the preparation of a series of ferricenium complexes bearing either electron-donating or electron-withdrawing substituents with weakly coordinating anions such as [B(C6F5)4]- or SbF6- is reported. These systems wer...
