Patrick Roughen is the Interim Dean of the School of Library and Information Sciences at North Carolina Central University in Durham, North Carolina. He holds a law degree from the University of Georgia and a Ph.D. in Library and Information Science from the University of South Carolina, where he was awarded a Laura Bush 21st Century Librarian Teaching and Research Fellowship through the Institute of Museum and Library Services. He received a B.S. Chemistry degree from Armstrong State University and obtained an MLIS from Valdosta State University. He is admitted to practice before the United State Patent and Trademark Office and is a member of the State Bar of Georgia.
