Dr. Paul Wallace
RECAPP 2020 Award Winner. Dr. Paul Wallace is a Professor of Instructional Technology in the Leadership and Educational Studies Department at Appalachian State University, with research and teaching interests in transforming society and learning through social robotics, telepresence, mixed reality, and new media narratives. Current research projects involve studying affect and anxiety related to human interaction and collaboration with robots and artificial agents within learning environments.
In a field that focuses on “technology”, Paul believes that technology is simply a tool that empowers and assists us in connecting to local and global knowledge, resources, and people. Some themes that run throughout his courses include incorporating a global perspective and the role of technology in aiding communication and collaboration. He believes strongly in embedding international concepts into all of his courses at Appalachian, encouraging students to consider beliefs from the perspective of other cultures and incorporating online collaborative projects with peers from around the world.
Dr. Wallace’s work has been recognized with several awards, including serving as Director of the Fulbright-Hays Group Projects Abroad Program to Indonesia and as a U.S. Fulbright Scholar to Russia.
