Dr. Jason DeHart
RECAPP 2019 Award Winner. Jason D. DeHart holds a Ph.D. from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, an Ed.S. and MAT from Lee University in Cleveland, Tennessee, and a Bachelor's degree in Pastoral Ministry from Lee University. He currently teaches courses in upper elementary literacy, middle school language arts methods, and adolescent literacy. Dr. DeHart teaches courses at both the undergraduate and graduate level. Before turning his attention to university work, Dr. DeHart served as a middle school English teacher for eight years in Cleveland, Tennessee. While teaching, he was a team leader and English/language arts department chair. He was the 2014-2015 system-level Teacher of the Year for grades 4-8. Dr. DeHart's research interests include motivating strategies for reluctant readers, as well as digital literacy and media-based literacy practices. His recent publications appear in English Journal, The Reading Teacher, and The Qualitative Report.
