Dr. Lucy Purgason

Lucy Purgason, Ph.D., LSC, ACS, NCC: RECAPP 2020 Award Winner. Dr. Lucy L. Purgason is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Human Development and Psychological Counseling in the Reich College of Education at Appalachian State University. She earned her PhD in Counseling and Counselor Education from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. Previously she worked as a school counselor for five years in rural and urban settings, including Title I schools and a school specifically for newcomer immigrant and refugee students. Her research interests include understanding the importance of both online and offline relationships for immigrant and refugee students, and students of other underrepresented groups, in both K-12 and higher education settings. In addition, she also pursues scholarship related to mentoring and supervision, with a specific emphasis on relational-cultural approaches.
