Abstract: This thesis will examine several critical issues related to the threats to U.S. security and intelligence posed by Chinese espionage. The first chapter gives an overview of the tension between China and the United States regarding the use of espionage and the rise of China. The second chapter reviews espionage committed by China and the various tactics and targets involved in these efforts. The third chapter examines the impact of Chinese espionage on the United States, specifically regarding the economy and national security. The final chapter assesses the diplomatic and counterintelligence efforts used by the United States in response to Chinese espionage and recommendations and reforms to increase the effectiveness of those efforts.
