Abstract: It has been suggested that, in the past ten years, changes in socialization definitions of male and female roles, coupled with increases in the numbers and percentages of women in the paid labor force, have strengthened the opportunities for and pressure for men to care for children. Researchers have asserted that the balance of responsibility has shifted with fathers taking on some of the nurturant functions traditionally associated with the maternal role.
