Abstract: In "The Awakening," Kate Chopin weaves structure, character, and technical devices into a controlled thematic unit. All of the elements employed in the novel fully complement and reinforce one another. The point toward which all of the elements progress is the revelation of the ultimate awakening of the protagonist -- the awakening to which the novel's title refers.
