Abstract: It was the purpose of this study (1) to examine the involvement of public education and the establishment of school boards in South Carolina to control the operation of public education; (2) to examine the structure of the ninety-three school districts in South Carolina as they are now constructed; (3) to study certain characteristics of the individuals who are presently serving on boards of education.
