Abstract: The colemanite -SO3-CaF2 system was studied to determine the effectiveness of the SO3-CaF2 mixture in the preparation of a volatile boron compound from colemanite (2CaO-3B2O3-5H2O). Reaction parameters were varied throughout the study to determine the concentration, time of heating, and reaction temperature which would yield the maximum amount of boron in the gaseous phase.
