Abstract: This thesis is a history of the development of mathematical logic and set theory. These subjects developed throughout the nineteenth century. The development is told through the ideas of the individual authors who were responsible. Among these authors are George Boole, Gottlob Frege, and Georg Cantor.Throughout the nineteenth century the development of mathematical logic and set theory became intertwined. This thesis argues that each field was spurred by the other throughout its development.
