Heather Venrick
Heather Venrick is a clinical faculty member in the Department of Nursing. Dr. Venrick began her educational journey at The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill where she graduated with B.S. in Exercise and Sport Science. She completed her ADN at Cabarrus College of Health Sciences, her RN-MSN and her DNP at Vanderbilt University. Dr. Venrick has experience in orthopedic nursing, teaching at the high school and college level, in pharmacy technician, and is a family nurse practitioner. She is a member of Vanderbilt’s Nursing Honor Society, Sigma Theta Tau.
Dr. Venrick has a passion in the multi-disciplinary approach to healthcare and the importance of Health Eating and Physical Activity (HEPA) standards on children in afterschool programs. Prior to joining the Nursing Department at Appalachian State, she worked closely a rural YMCA in NC to assure the YMCA afterschool students received a healthy snack, participated in physical activity, and limited their screen time. This community experience provided insight on quality improvement projects the YMCA could offer to improve upon their existing programs.
Dr. Venrick enjoys spending time with her family; her husband, Austin; their daughter, Isabella; and their two cats Charlie and Sirius. She is new to living in Boone, but not “new” to the area since her husband and mother-in-law graduated from Appalachian State University.
