Abstract: Costa Rica does not have a strong tradition for music education other than the teaching of classical music performance. In order to promote music education, Dr. Daniel C. Johnson, an associate professor of music education at the University of North Carolina Wilmington, presented international outreach workshops on the importance and practice of Orff Schulwerk to teachers, college students and children from a number of Central American countries. Organized with Guillero Rosabel-Coto, an associate professor of music education and chair of the music education department at the University of Costa Rica, Johnson was invited by Rosabel, the University of Costa Rica (UCR) and the Costa Rican Form of Music Education (FOCODEM) on two occasions, to present workshops on Orff Schulwerk. These workshops were the first of their kind.
