Abstract: There has been a significantly increased interest in the adoption of prediction modelingby many disease and case management programs to risk stratify members in order tooptimize the utilization of available clinical resources. Before adopting any predictionmodel, it is crit- ical to understand how to evaluate the model’s accuracy. This paperexplains the basic con- cepts of prediction accuracy, the relevant parameters, theirdrawbacks, and their interpreta- tions. It also introduces a new accuracy parametertermed “cost concentration,” which indicates the model accuracy more explicitly in thecontext of disease management
