My research interests include social inequality (particularly intersections of gender, caste, and class), state, social movements, development, globalization and violence. In my research, I examine the role of the state in how people negotiate inequality. In particular, I study how state policies influence the frames people use to interpret unequal access to food and care and how those frames challenge or adapt to inequality. I also have another on-going project on domestic violence in India, that complements my interest in state society engagement for social change.
