Abstract: This study investigated the use of video modeling (VM) in improving play-related social skills for children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) in Saudi Arabia. A single subject multiple probe, multiple baseline across behaviors replicated across two participants was used to investigate the effect of using VM to improve play-related social skills inside a school’s play center on children with ASD. The participants were two children with ASD ages 6 and 12. The social play skills, which required cooperation, included: a) playing tag, (b) playing Who can sit on the chair? and (c) playing colored coins. The purpose of the study was to measure the effectiveness of using VM to improve social skills (play-related social skills) on elementary-age children in Saudi Arabia (Makkah Province). Generalization and maintenance data were collected. Further, this study investigated the social validity of this intervention on the participants. The research questions were: (a) What is the effectiveness of using VM strategy to improve social skills (play-related social skills) of elementary-aged students with ASD in Saudi Arabia (Makkah province)? and (b) What are the teachers’ perceptions of the effects of VM on the social skills of students with ASD? Results indicated participants improved their social play skills (i.e., playing tag, Who can sit on the chair?, and colored coins) as a result of the intervention. Visual inspection of the graphs indicated a functional relation between the use of VM and the two elementary students’ participants with ASD – level one’s ability to improve their social play skills. Limitations and implications for practice, and suggestions for future research were addressed in this study.
