Abstract: The purpose of the present study was to aid in standardization of the "Assessment of Communication in Everyday Situations," a functional communication test designed to appraise children's communication competence. This developmental study attempts to obtain information on the communication competence of children based on their chronological age. The results of the study are that ACES appears to be a valid test instrument, and that four, six and eight-year-old children do differ significantly in performance on ACES.
