Abstract: Ocean wave energy extraction is one of the emerging elds in renewable energy research. With high availability, high power density, high eciency and low cost, a good prospectcan be foreseen for its industrial application. Among all Wave Energy Converters (WEC),the Slider-Crank WEC stands out with its suitability for large scale WEC deployments(> 10kW). However, the nonlinearity of Slider-Crank system causes difficulty in controllingand maximizing energy extraction. This research develops a novel control algorithm for thegenerator in order to reach resonance with wave excitation force; the research is carried outunder regular and irregular wave conditions, respectively. Simulation results validate that asuboptimal energy extraction can be achieved.
