Abstract: When one thinks of Civil War photography, Matthew Brady and his photographs of battlefields come to mind as do the many portraits of soldiers of the Union and Confederacy. Anna and Julia Hider have collected portraits of Civil War beards from various Library of Congress collections. Badass Civil War Beards looks at the wide variety of facial hair stylings (or lack thereof) of the war. Using humorous quips and puns, Anna and Julia Hider provide a light-hearted look at the beards of the day.
