Abstract: The problem was a comparative study of the means of communication toddlers use at home and in the group setting in the nursery school. One purpose of the study was to determine through observation the types of communication toddlers used at home as compared with those they used at the toddler-group situation away from home. Another purpose was to show the relationships between language patterns and such factors as age, sex, number of children in the home and ordinal position of the child studied. The subjects were 20 children enrolled in the toddler-group of the Child Development program in the School of Home Economics of the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. The study was done during the spring semester of the school year 1968-69.
