Abstract: The purpose of this thesis is to explore the opportunities that the process of disidentification offers to queer spectators of two specific films, Black Swan (2010) and The Kids Are All Right (2010). Through the interrogation of these particular representations of female sexuality, deeper questions concerning queer failure and queer negativity are uncovered. Queer failure is explored in the two films and then the ideas are applied to broader social issues.
