Abstract: Physical education became a part of the public school curriculum mainly as a result of the now historic "Physical Training Conference," held in Boston in 1889. The condition under which physical education was to be taken into the curriculum as set up by the school men attending the conference, reflected not only their ideas concerning education, but also their idea of the function of physical education.
