Abstract: The purpose of this study was to determine the relative effects of physical practice, mental practice, and a combination of physical and mental practice on increasing abdominal strength in fifty-six female high school students. Abdominal strength was measured by the cable tensiometer. Subjects were divided into one control group and three experimental groups; the three experimental groups met daily for five minutes for a total of seventeen practice days during a four week period. In order to determine if the various practice methods were effective as a means of changing abdominal strength, all groups were tested for abdominal strength on the beginning, middle, and final days of the study.
