Abstract: It was the purpose of this study to investigate the information base used to place handicapped children in the North Carolina public schools. It was hypothesized that school district size and types of handicapping conditions would make no significant difference in the extent of use of evaluative information, program option availability, and availability of support services. The subjects were 81 special education coordinators in North Carolina local education agencies. The subjects were divided into three categories according to school district size: small school districts, medium school districts, and large school districts. Equal n's of 27 appeared in each category.
