Abstract: The selected literature related to the evaluation of the performance of college and university administrators was reviewed. Following the review of the literature, a questionnaire was developed to ascertain the status of the evaluation of administrators in the four year colleges and universities of North Carolina. The questionnaire was submitted to the forty-seven chief executives of these institutions. Thirty-six questionnaires were returned. As a part of the questionnaire, a request was made for a copy of the formal evaluation plan for the evaluation of administrators. Four evaluation forms were returned.
