Abstract: Service-learning is the coupling of academic work that students do in a classroom with students’ service to an organization outside the classroom. The academic work and the service are completed together, so that students both study issues and become participants in the outworking of those issues in a particular community setting. In this way, students learn through the integration of theory and practice.
This article makes the point that computer technology is a prime way to enable students to serve their communities, particularly when students help agencies create and update Web sites.
