Abstract: Many academic institutions have one or more satellite libraries outside of the main library. In a digital age, it is necessary for the staff in both libraries to work together to “retool” not only what is in their respective collections, but also how the faculty and students are provided access to these materials. This co-presentation will illustrate how open communication and active collaboration between library liaisons can make materials and information more accessible to constituent users.The UNCP Music Resource Center (MRC) functions as a “satellite” branch of the Mary Livermore Library. The MRC primarily serves as both the Library & the Computer Lab for music students and faculty. In this presentation, Meggan Hollis, Administrative Support Specialist, will describe how the MRC functions for music students and faculty, how student workers are used to better serve UNCP’s music student population, and how she works with the main library personnel to provide higher quality service. David Young, Catalog Librarian, will outline his specific work with the MRC to get materials properly described and entered into a shared, online library management system (LMS). David works closely with Meggan to ensure new acquisitions are added to the shared LMS system quickly, correctly, and efficiently.
