Abstract: This article is designed to assist nurses in providing prayer to patients from all faith traditions. Included are guidelines for conducting an assessment to determine the patient's prayer preferences, strategies for overcoming barriers to prayer, resources for finding suitable prayers for healing, and some short, practical prayers for nurses and patients. Praying with patients is one way for nurses to honor a patient's spirit through Watson's caring science. The goal is to assist nurses to include prayer in their practice for patients who desire prayer.
