Abstract: Gallaudet University, the University of Maryland School of Medicine, and SHHH are completing a study to determine the extent to which genetic factors are involved in hearing loss that occurs in adulthood. This study, the first of its kind, is funded by the National Institute on Deafness and Other Communication Disorders, National Institutes of Health. The results of the first phase of this study are described in this article.
