Abstract: This study was conducted to determine, according to grade level assignment, the attitudes of regular classroom teachers toward the practice of mainstreaming. An attitudinal scale was administered to all regular classroom teachers in the McDowell County School System in Marion, North Carolina. Eight variables were selected to test for correlations with attitude: grade level assignment, sex, marital status, age, years of teaching experience, degrees earned, mainstreaming courses/workshops taken, and presence of a handicapped relative.
