Abstract: This history of Claremont College is the result of a careful search for written materials and more than a hundred interviews with persons formerly associated with the college in one way or another. Original sources and contemporary accounts have been relied on heavily . . . This history covers a span of fifty-seven years, 1880-1937, or the time from the incorporation of Claremont Female College to the repeal of the charter of Claremont College. No single previous record exists covering the entire life of the college.
