Abstract: The history of Patterson School, Legerwood, Caldwell County, North Carolina, is unique and rich in tradition from its beginning in 1909 until the present year of 1961. It offered academic and vocational services to meet the educational needs of the boys in the mountain area of North Carolina before public school education was available. As the society has changed, the school has altered its services to meet the changing demands.
